Hyundai Santa Cruz 2025: A Compact Truck with Hybrid Power and Stylish Design – The Hyundai Santa Cruz is a small pickup truck that came out in 2024 as a new competitor in its class. The Hyundai Tucson SUV shares its base and some of its features, but it has a different look and a cargo bed that can be used in different ways. The Santa Cruz will likely get a hybrid engine choice in 2025. This will make it more fuel-efficient and improve its speed. The Tucson’s hybrid system has a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a battery pack. This is likely what the hybrid system will be built on. The hybrid Santa Cruz will go up against the Ford Maverick, which is also a small truck that comes with a hybrid engine.
There will also be two more engine choices for the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz. These are a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque and a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. The turbo engine comes with a dual-clutch system and all-wheel drive as standard. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Our Santa Cruz can pull up to 5,000 pounds, which is pretty good for a car in this class.
It will also have the same five trim options as the Cruz: SE, SEL, Night, XRT, and Limited. The Night model is new for 2024. It has a turbo engine, black exterior details, LED lights, leather seats, and a high-end music system. Another new trim for 2024 is the XRT, which comes with skid plates, all-terrain tyres, and side steps for use off-road. The most expensive type is the Limited. It has a bigger touchscreen, a digital cluster of gauges, a sunroof, seats that can be heated or cooled, and more advanced safety systems.
Design: Exterior and Interior
The outside of the Hyundai Santa Cruz is different from other cars because of its unique style. It looks sleek and fast, with a big hexagonal grille, split headlights, curved flanks, and a roofline that slopes down. The cargo bed is only 4.3 feet long. Still, it has some useful features, such as a built-in tonneau cover, a locked storage area under the floor and a movable tailboard that can make the bed 6 feet long.
The inside of the Santa Cruz is modern and roomy, with space for up to five people. The Tucson cabin looks a lot like this one, but the steering wheel, panel setup, and centre console are all different. There is a lot of technology in the Santa Cruz. It has a head-up display, an 8-inch or 10.25-inch tablet navigation system that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless charging. The Santa Cruz also has a lot of safety systems, such as lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, driver attention warning, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.
There will be three engine choices for the Hyundai Santa Cruz in 2025: a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, and a hybrid system based on a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The base engine makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, and it gets about 24 miles per gallon combined. It comes with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive can be added as an extra.
The turbo engine makes 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and it gets about 23 miles per gallon on the highway. All-wheel drive and a dual-clutch gearbox are part of it. The hybrid system should be able to make 225 horsepower and get 35 miles per gallon on the highway. Most likely, it will come with all-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox with eight speeds.
Release Date and Price
The Hyundai Santa Cruz should go on sale in late 2024 or early 2025 for the 2025 model year. Prices haven’t been made public yet, but the base SE model is likely to cost around $26,000, and the top-of-the-line Limited model will cost around $41,000. Most likely, the hybrid model will cost more than the types that aren’t hybrid.
